Sowing Hope

Our Children's Program

Our program focuses on after-school support for children ages 5 to 12.  We offer accompaniment in homework, computer skills, reading improvement, soccer, and a healthy meal at the end of the day.

But our main purpose is to teach students life values based on the Bible, especially, the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.

Every year, for almost two decades we welcome around 50 children every afternoon, Monday through Thursday, who  love and appreciate the joy, safety and peace they feel at Casa Victoria.

OUR GUIDELINES

We open our doors at 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and we begin with a group of children according to their ages: 5 to 12 years old (7 groups), and we remind you of the rules of Casa Vitoria:

Listen to and respect the volunteers, remain silent when an adult is speaking, and take care of materials by leaving them in their proper place, as well as always recycling.

Train with politeness and respect, walking (not running) within Casa Victoria, and showing love and respect to your classmates.

Maintain silence at activity stations, allow only two children to use the restroom when the whistle blows to change stations, and leave cell phones in backpacks or not bring them with you.

Always arrive on time and take care of our Casa Victoria, consume snacks and chew gum only outside of Casa Victoria, and always tell the truth.

In our house, we have different stations for children to use while enjoying the Sowing Hope program.

FAMILY AND VALUES

Evelyn Anillo is in charge of teaching age-appropriate biblical values classes to children. Through activities such as songs, verse memorization, themed movies, drawings, and painting, Evelyn introduces a monthly value that is consistently reinforced in each session. She also leads conversations with the children to get to know them better and understand their family situation, providing a space for dialogue and emotional support.

Computer Assistance

Over the years, several computer teachers have shared valuable knowledge and hands-on experience with our children. In 2018–2019, we had the presence of “Teacher Ted,” as the kids affectionately called him, who not only taught them how to use donated robots and tablets but also offered basic English classes. His interactive and engaging teaching style captured the children’s attention, giving them a unique and fun learning experience.

Homework Help

The children at Casa Victoria receive personalized support with their homework, projects, and other school activities. With the support of our volunteers, including students from various institutions, a learning environment is created in which each child receives the attention and guidance needed to advance their academic development and strengthen their self-confidence.

LIBRARY

We have more than 500 books donated over the years by individuals and organizations. These books help our children improve their reading skills, learn new things, and stimulate their minds. Every day, we lend age-appropriate books to those who wish to continue reading at home, with the only condition that they be returned in good condition and on the agreed-upon date.

Task Station

After completing their homework, children can play in the Play room with loads of (donated) toys, or outside in the playground or our mini soccer field.

Courts, outdoor games and our little garden

We have a synthetic turf field where children have fun playing their favorite sports, such as soccer and volleyball. We also have a playground with slides and swings so our little ones can have a blast once they've finished their homework! We also have a small garden for everyone to take care of.

Play Room and Dining Room

At 5:00 a.m., our children wash their hands and enjoy a nutritious and delicious meal. After a day full of activities—homework, reading, games, and songs in English—they recharge. We also have a toy room with stuffed animals, cars, balls, board games, puppets, and Lego, thanks to our generous donors.
