How a Dream Found a Better Home
In 2016, a 40-day crowdfunding campaign helped the Casa Victoria Foundation transform our old cellar into what is now Wuawuas Pizzeria (which is still fully operating from Tuesday to Saturday!). Thanks to generous hearts, a simple idea became a vibrant space where pizza, community, and purpose came together in support of our children.
A few years later, we dreamed bigger. We launched a second crowdfunding campaign to create an outdoor terrace next to the pizzeria. For a while, it was a beautiful, lively, and deeply loved place. A dream come true.
But over time, circumstances changed.
Heavy rains and the lack of proper care from the city began to affect the space.
As the terrace remained open and unprotected, it started to be used as a place of refuge by people facing extreme vulnerability and addiction. While their reality deserves compassion, the situation made it impossible to keep the space safe, clean, and welcoming for families and children.
With heavy hearts, we made the difficult decision to step back, remove the tables and plants, and close that chapter.
And then, something shifted.
Instead of letting the dream fade, we looked within Casa Victoria and discovered new possibilities. In a quiet corner of our front garden, an area rarely used by our children, we found the perfect place to begin again.
Around November 2025, we made it happen. Dan and Alicia decided to reuse the original fountain, the tables, and as many elements as possible from the former terrace, reimagining them with care and intention. This is how Wuawuas Giardino was born: a green, peaceful, and secure space nestled inside Casa Victoria.
Today, Wuawuas Giardino is open to the public, serving brunch and pizza every Saturday and Sunday. The response has been joyful and encouraging, and the space is already full of life.
The dream didn’t disappear.
It simply grew and transformed into something better. Come visit us any weekend, we would love to welcome you.
